Volta Region Director of Health apologizes for calling media “destructive”
Dr Joseph Teye Nuertey, Volta Regional Director of Health, has apologized for remarks considered by the media as disparaging of them.
“I am sorry for any misunderstanding my comment might have created, it was not meant to insult anybody”, Dr Nuertey said in a letter to the Chairman, Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Volta Region.
Dr Nuertey was reported to have referred to the Media in the region as “destructive” following a news report on alleged financial fraud involving some officials of the Regional Hospital.
The comment prompted an emergency meeting of a cross section of Media Practitioners under the auspices of the GJA at which an apology was demanded from Dr Nuertey.
“It is unfortunate that such an impression has been created about me, however, I will encourage your esteemed Association to investigate and ascertain the veracity in the allegations made,” he said.
“I have not and will not under any circumstance insult your Association when I have been a friend of the media for many years.”
He said the Media in the Brong Ahafo, Greater Accra, and Central regions could attest to his media friendliness.
Dr Nuertey said on assumption of duty in the Volta region, he impressed on his “senior managers to establish a good relationship with the media and even support the media to complement our efforts at developing and “selling” the region to entice health workers to seek transfer into the region.”
