Committee inaugurated to review GYEEDA operations
Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Minister of Youth and Sports on Friday inaugurated a five- member Ministerial Impact Assessment Committee to help review the operations of Ghana Youth Employment Entrepreneurship Development Agency (GYEEDA).
The committee is also expected to make recommendations on improving the long term viability and sustainability of the programme.
He said: “The prime objective of the committee is to undertake an overall impact assessment of GYEEDA since its inception in 2006, with the view to take active measures when necessary to ensure that the mandate of the programme is delivered in the supreme interest of the collective youth of the country”.
Members of the Committee include Mr Ferdinand Gunn, Senior Partner, Ernst and Young, Mr Edward Amuzu Tuinese, Lawyer and Lead Consultant, Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice and Mr Randolph Nsor-Mbala, Consultant, National Communications Authority.
The rest are Mr Kwame Edem Senanu, Management and Development Consultant, and a Representative from the Public Service Commission, Mr Mike K. Garba.
Mr Afriyie Ankrah said government is deeply committed to ensure that GYEEDA contributes significantly to create and provide employment opportunities for the teaming and budding youth.
He said the committee is to review the regulatory framework of GYEEDA and how it had evolved to its current state and examine in details the various modules and partner programmes.
It will also review the capacity of persons entrusted with certain key responsibilities related to the mandate of the programme.
The committee will perform in-depth investigations of possible irregularities of crime and related financial losses and actions taken by, management to recover possible embezzlement of money and other assets.
Mr Afriyie Ankrah said over the years GYEEDA had been fraught with numerous challenges that impede government’s efforts at delivering on planned programmes and social interventions for the youth.
He observed that most of the challenges facing GYEEDA are beginning to gain prominence especially with the recent media speculations about the possibility of financial irregularities.
The committee is expected to complete its work within eight weeks and two weeks to submit its final report.
Mr Gunn, Chairman of the Committee said members would be mindful of the task given them.
“With God on our side we would do the work to the best of our ability,” he said.
