Ghana election petition case adjourned to April 17

The Supreme Court has adjourned to Wednesday April 17, hearing of the Election Petition to allow the Electoral Commission (EC) to file its affidavit and for the petitioners to be served.

The EC is the second respondent to the petition filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Party Chairman, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey.

The petitioners are asking the court to annul 4,670,504 votes and which they say can overturn the results declared by the EC after the December 2012 polls.

They are therefore challenging the EC’s declaration of President John Mahama as winner of the presidential polls with 50.70 per cent against his main contender Nana Akufo-Addo who polled 47.74 per cent.
