Gender activist seeks support for DOVVSU

Dr. Francess Ama Dufie Azumah, Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Social Work, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has pleaded with corporate bodies to support the Police Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) with more logistics.

She said given the Unit’s critical role of dealing with gender-based and domestic violence issues, it is important to provide it with the necessary resources to function effectively.

It would not be out of place for corporate bodies and institutions to assist them with computers, vehicles and other facilities, as part of their social responsibility.

They could also sponsor personnel of the DOVVSU to undertake refresher courses and capacity-building programmes to sharpen their skills.

Dr. Azumah, a gender activist, was speaking after the “Gender Class 2012/2013” of the Department had donated some items to the Ashanti Regional DOVVSU at a ceremony.

These included a tent, office furniture and a standing fan.

She pledged their resolve to collaborate with the Unit in the areas of research and technology transfer, for efficient handling of cases.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Susan Dery, officer in-charge of the Unit, thanked the Class for the gesture.
