Students advised to use ICT revolutionize agribusiness in Ghana

Madam Jeane L. Clarke, Information Officer, Public Affairs Section of the United States (U.S) Embassy in Ghana,  on Friday urged computer science students to use their skills in Information Communication Technology (ICT) to transform the local economy.

She specifically urged them to use ICT to ‘revolutionize’ agribusiness in Ghana.

Madam Clarke gave the advice during an interaction with students of the Computer Science Department of Ho Polytechnic in Ho.

She had earlier interacted with some journalists in Ho on Thursday evening.

“Information is what is driving the World” Madam Clarke said, and challenged the students to make good use of social media to establish themselves and enhance their livelihoods.

She said commodities such as tomatoes and fruits, for instance, could be marketed on the Internet and urged the students to explore such opportunities.

“We have a strong opinion that the Internet is doing great and helping many in the private sector and you can take advantage of that,” Madam Clarke said.

She encouraged them to form small entrepreneurial groups and use social media to turn things around for themselves and their communities.

Mr Noble Kuadey, Head of Department of the Computer Science Department of Ho Polytechnic said the Department was giving practical orientation to students in computer networking, website designing, software engineering and data base analysis, among others.

He was hopeful that with those skills, the students could solve problems in their immediate environment and in society at large.

Mr Kuadey expressed gratitude to Madam Clarke for the interaction which he described as “inspiring.”
