Court sentences farmer to 100 months imprisonment for fraud
The Bibiani Circuit Court has sentenced a farmer, Yussif Haroun, to 100 months imprisonment for swindling the Sefwi Bonsu-Nkwanta Manager of the Midland Bank of GH¢30,000.00.
He had taken the money under the pretext of supplying him with 1,000 bags of fertilizer.
Haroun pleaded not guilty to the offence of defrauding.
Police Detective Chief Inspector Alex Asamoah told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Ankamah that the crime was committed in April, last year.
The convict, a farmer at Juaboso and a customer of the Midland Bank, had gone to the complainant in his office where he convinced him that he could supply him bags of fertilizer at the cost of GH¢30,000.00.
A cheque for that amount was issued to him by the complainant on April 13, and Haroun went into hiding after cashing it.
Investigations led to his arrest three months later.
