Kwahu Traditional Council puts ban on burial of Queen

The Kwahu Traditional Council has imposed an indefinite ban on the burial of the former Queen of Atibie, the late Nana Ama Antomaah II, who died on November 05, 2009.

The Traditional Council took the decision at an emergency meeting held at Abene on Friday and all necessary documentation had also been filed at the Nkawkaw High Court to put an injunction on the burial at Atibie or any other Kwahu land.

Nana Asiedu Agyemang III, the Adontenhene of the Traditional Area, addressed the emergency meeting on behalf of Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II, the Kwahumanhene.

He said the family head of Atibie, Opanyin Yaw Mensah, and Nana Kofi Somuah Abredu, the royal family head of Atibie, had used the name of the Kwahumanhene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and the other chiefs of the Kwahu Traditional Area on the late queen’s obituary posters.

This was done without customarily informing the chiefs of the death, burial and funeral rites of the Queen.

According to the Adontenhene, the people of Atibie migrated from Kuntenase in the Ashanti Region and settled at Atibie Kwahu, suggesting that, if they would not use the appropriate channel, then, the Queen should be buried at Kuntenase in Ashanti where they migrated from.
