Doctors’ strike: Police Hospital says ready for emergencies

Assistant Superintendent of Police Juliana Obeng, Public Relations Officer of the Police Hospital has given the assurance that the Police Hospital has put in place pragmatic measures to effectively manage the pressure at the Hospital due to the ongoing strike action by medical doctors.

As part of the measures, she said the Service had opened its Depot and Workshop Clinics meant for its personnel to the general public to help reduce the pressure that was mounting on the facility.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), ASP Obeng said though there had been an increase in the number of patients at the Hospital, the situation was under control but added the situation might change if the strike action got prolonged.

According to her, the Hospital had made available two Mobile Clinics to the public to absorb the increasing number of patients at the main Hospital.

She explained that the Mobile Clinics were made up of 10 beds each to boost the physical capacity of the Hospital.

She said all the medical and non-medical staff on leave had been recalled to boost the workforce.

The Officer added the Hospital had increased the capacity of  its Maternity Unit by turning the old Out Patient Department  (OPD) into a ward to absorb the pressure at the Unit.

ASP Obeng said the daily cases at the OPD and the Pediatric Unit had increased to over 100 per cent  with the Maternity Unit recording over 200 per cent increase since the beginning of the GMA strike  about two weeks ago.

“We are on top of the situation currently and are well prepared to attend to any emergency cases”, she said.

ASP Obeng commended government for its enormous support to the Hospital.
