Six men remanded for armed robbery
The Agona Swedru Circuit Court has refused bail for five Fulani men, arrested for allegedly taking part in armed robbery.
The pleads of Umaru Alhasan, Abubakari Siddiqque, Awudu Hamza, alias Muda, Zakaria Iddrisu and Salisu Mohamed, all residents of Kasoa, were not taken.
The court presided over by Mr Nathaniel K. Osam remanded the suspects in prison custody to reappear on May 14, 2013.
Police Inspector Opoku Agyeman told the Court that on November 5, last year, the suspects carried out an armed robbery at Walantu, a suburb of Kasoa.
He said the robbers, armed with guns and other offensive weapons, broke into the house of Hamza Salou, a trader, and made away with a Television set, 200 Ghana Cedis, and a Honda motorbike .
Insp. Agyeman said the robbers also broke into the house of Mr M. Azumah, a businessman, shot him in the arm and took away his belongings.
The prosecution said Salou and Azumah upon tip-off, arrested the suspects at their hideouts at Walantu on November 21, last year, and handed them over to the police.
Insp. Agyeman said when the Police search the rooms of the suspects, dried leaves suspected to be India hemp were found.
