Gold dealer remanded for allege fraud

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Fuseini Yahaya, a gold dealer, for defrauding a footballer GH¢8,300.

The court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri remanded the accused to re-appear on May 8, 2013. He pleaded not guilty to a charge of defrauding by false pretences.

Yahya was said to have obtained the consent of the complainant, Mohammed Sanusi to provide gold dust for sale but it turned to be fake.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Morkeh, prosecuting told the court that the complainant is a resident of Darkuman in Accra.

He said in October 2012, the accused went to the complainant’s house to offer him a quantity of gold dust he intended to sell.

DSP Morkeh said the brother of the complainant, who had arrived from abroad then, showed interest in buying the gold and asked his brother (complainant) to negotiate on his behalf.

He said the accused then gave them a piece of metal, which turned out to be fake.

The prosecution said when confronted, the accused promised to produce a genuine one but failed to do so.

He said when several attempts to get the accused to replace the metal proved futile the matter was reported to the Police and he was arrested.

DSP Morkeh opposed a bail application filed by the counsel for the accused, because he attempted to run away when he was sent for medical treatment while in custody.
