Abonya township attacked
The Ashaiman Divisional Police Command has deployed personnel to provide maximum security for the chiefs and people of Abonya near Dodowa.
This followed an attack on the town on Tuesday by about 20 unidentified persons.
Chief Superintendent David Eklu, Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, who made this disclosure during a visit to the town on Wednesday to assess the situation, said the deployment of the Police personnel was the immediate security measure to ensure that residents who fled the town after the vandalization return to continue with their normal activities.
Chief Supt. Eklu was accompanied by Mr Emmanuel O. Lartey, Dangbe West District Chief Executive, Mr David Tetteh Assumeng, Member of Parliament for the area, Chief Supt Victor Amedeker, Commander of the Tema Buffalo Unit and Supt Segu Alhassan, Dodowa District Police Commander.
The Ashaiman Divisional Commander said the District Security Council would convene on Friday to put in place permanent security measures to address the problem.
He assured the residents that the Police would conduct investigation into the matter to identify the perpetrators and bring them to book.
Briefing the Divisional Police Commander and his entourage during the visit, Nene Sodji IV, Chief of Abonya said the attackers vandalized his residence and made away with GH¢1,000 and his regalia.
Nene Sodji said they also took away GH¢200 belonging to a cloth seller and some of her cloths, while two boys got injured during the attack.
The chief added that the attackers destroyed some houses, windscreens of three vehicles and some electrical installations.
