Two confirmed dead in renewed Bunkpurugu clashes
Two persons have been confirmed dead in renewed clashes between the Konkombas and the Bimobas at Kpemale, a farming community in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District of the Northern Region.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ebenezer Tetteh, Public Relations Officer of the Northern Police Command told the Ghana News Agency that the clashes started on Thursday dawn and resulted in the death of the deceased while three others sustained gunshot wounds.
He said the bodies have since been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue while the injured are being treated in a health facility but no arrest has been made.
ASP Tetteh said the situation which took the security in the area by surprise also resulted in the burning of 10 houses and destruction of other properties saying: “Calm has since been restored.”.
He said it was unclear what might have sparked the clashes but observed that it might have related to the dispute over a parcel of land.
The Konkombas and the Bimobas have been engaged in a protracted dispute spanning over three decades.
