Sissala East District re-elects Presiding Member
Mr Alex Bapula, Assembly Member for Nabulo, has been re-elected Presiding Member for Sissala East District Assembly.
Mr Bapula, a sole candidate polled 25 votes out of the 27 total vote cast to seal his victory.
The election which was held during the first ordinary meeting of the third session of the sixth District Assembly did not record the usual controversies that often mar such election processes in the district.
The 37-year-old Presiding Member who is the District Director of Health Services expressed his gratitude to the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Avea Ephraim Nsoh for his efforts in reconciling the Assembly that was initially divided before the election.
Mr Bapula appealed to his colleagues to display the same unity when the time comes for the confirmation of whoever would be appointed as the District Chief Executive (DCE).
Dr Nsoh who is presently the Acting DCE said government is committed to strengthen the decentralisation process to make it responsive to the needs of the people.
He said in this respect, some of the recommendations put forward by the Constitutional Review Committee would be given maximum attention.
Dr Nsoh said for the Region to be able to erase the tag on the area as one of the poorest in the country, there is the need for the people to work towards achieving positive results.
He mentioned three key areas including the elimination of shoddy works on development projects, respect for work ethics, and innovation and creativity on the part of stakeholders as areas he would be focusing on and appealed for the support of the assembly members.
Dr Nsoh said at the end of March, the assembly was able to mobilise a total amount of GH¢36,954.80 as Internally Generated Funds (IGF) representing 14.2 per cent of the annual estimate of GH¢258,565.00.
He urged the assembly to think of innovative ways to improve its performance especially in the area of IGF.
