Microsoft to assist promising Ghanaian IT experts

ICT_InternetMicrosoft will invest in young and promising Information Communication Technology (ICT) experts to help transform Ghana through ICT, Mrs Mercy Omari Tenkorang, Head of Business Development of Microsoft Ghana has said.

Mrs Tenkorang said Microsoft had in place programmes to discover promising ICT experts capable of providing solutions to the country’s problems through technology.

She said investment in the young people was very important to secure the economic and social foundation of the country.

Mrs Tenkorang disclosed this to Ghana News Agency at an IT Seminar for students and alumni of Kofi Annan Information Technology Centre in Accra.

The event aims to expose students to different Microsoft softwares, which can be used to develop applications to meet the country’s needs.

Mrs Tenkorang said the event was also meant to scout for promising ICT experts, who Microsoft would provide with the necessary support to create innovative applications.

She said these experts would be trained and given the opportunity to exhibit their creativity to enable them to compete with foreign applications in the country.

“With this, they will not be tempted to travel outside Ghana to seek greener pastures elsewhere”, she added.

She advised the students to identify challenges for which they could develop applications to address.

Microsoft had organised similar workshops in schools such as Ghana Technology University College and Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology and there are plans to extend it to other Universities.
