Ghana Armed Forces arrests applicants with fake certificates
Two out of six people who tried to use fake West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Certificates to get enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) were on Monday arrested and handed over to the Tamale District Police.
Philip Amanuvor and Abdul Awumbik, both in their early 20s, scanned and faked WASSCE Certificates as part of their documents to enhance their selection and subsequent enlistment into the GAF.
The other four who could not be immediately identified fled the scene and are yet to be apprehended.
William Nyanteh, Warrant Officer (W.O) at the Directorate of Public Relations (Northern Sector) of the GAF, who briefed journalists in Tamale on Tuesday, said GAF Officers in charge of Documentation detected the anomaly on the certificates and quick arrested them.
Officials from GAF on Monday began screening of applicants from the Northern Sector to be enlisted into the Force.
In all, 2,210 applicants comprising 550 for the Navy, 1,032 for the Air Force and 628 for the Army, would be screened during the five-day long exercise to select those qualified to join GAF.
W.O Nyanteh said following the arrest, some of the applicants who arrived for the screening exercise started leaving, which raised suspicions that they might also be in possession of faked certificates.
He, therefore, advised applicants who did not have genuine certificates not to step near the venue since the law would catch up with them.
