Help government to succeed – NDC Secretary
Alhaji Alhassan ImoroYussif Umar, Northern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has advised the youth to stop agitating against some personalities of the party and help the government to succeed.
He said they should rather provide useful suggestions to the leadership to ensure a successful implementation of the “Better Ghana Agenda.”
Alhaji Umar said agitations in any form reversed the clock of progress and that such acts must stop to enable the President and his appointees to focus on working to achieve the “Better Ghana Agenda” to justify the confidence Ghanaians had in the party.
Alhaji Umar gave the advice in Tamale on Sunday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after some supporters of the party from the Gushegu District besieged the residence of the Northern Regional Minister on Saturday to demand the immediate dismissal of Alhaji Alhassan Fuseini, District Chief Executive (DCE).
The over 100 supporters travelled from Gushegu to Tamale to press home their demands of the immediate dismissal of the DCE to bring unity to the party.
Members of the group, led by Mr Halid Abukari Sugrigu, were full of emotions and alleged, among other things, that the DCE had sown seeds of disunity within the rank and file of the party and this had the tendency to destroy the positive image of the NDC in Gushegu.
Mr Sugrigu said: “The DCE has threatened the unity of the party using divisive tactics by embracing some of the supporters and ignoring others”.
The group claimed that the Northern Regional Executives of the party deepened the woes of the people by failing to act swiftly when the concerns of the supporters were brought to their attention.
Alhaji Umar said in every party there were problems and that amicable settling of those problems would bring perpetual unity to build a formidable party for the benefit of all.
He explained that there were complaints from various parts of the region including that of Gushegu and that in order to be fair to the accused there was the need to conduct an investigation before taking any action.
He said: “In any case only the President has the prerogative to appoint and dismiss a DCE but what the executive can only do is to investigate and recommend to the President for action”.
Alhaji Umar said the leadership of the irate group from Gushegu had a fruitful meeting with Mr Bede Ziedeng, Northern Regional Minister, and his deputy Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini as well as the Regional Executive and expressed the hope that the youth would remain patient for unity to prevail.
He said: “If NDC is fighting itself how do you come together to fight your opponent,” adding that it was necessary for the NDC to unite and protect itself against its political opponents so as to remain in power.
