Ghana’s former President John A. Kufuor has been named co-chair of the recently-launched Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition.

The panel, hosted by the London International Development Centre (LIDC) was unveiled June 8, 2013 by the UK Government.

The Panel was formed to review research evidence and provide global leadership for investments and policies in agriculture that support nutrition and help eradicate hunger.

Mr Kufuor’s fellow panel co-chair is former UK Chief Scientific Adviser, Prof. Sir John Beddington.

In a statement, Mr Kufuor said “We need a concerted global effort to eradicate hunger and we need it now. No child should have his or her potential wasted due to lack of food regardless of which part of the world they live in, whether in a developed country or in a developing country.”

Mr Kufour won the 2011 World Food Prize together with Brazil’s former President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

“His administration helped to initiate or continue improvements in farming, nutrition, education, healthcare, and infrastructure, leading to significant positive changes in Ghana during the first decade of the new millennium,” International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) said about Kufuor when he won the 2011 World Food Prize.
