Wood workers train in ICT under World Bank Project

A $66,000.00 World Bank Project to aid the training of wood workers in Information Communication Technology (ICT), to add value to their products, has been launched at the Wood Industry Training School (WITC) at Akyawkrom near Ejisu.

Apart from the exposure to basic ICT skills, the trainees under this project would also receive a laptop computer each.

Nana Ohene Wontumi, a member of the Board of Directors of the Forestry Commission (FC),  at the launching ceremony, said the programme would be facilitated by the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET).

The first batch of 40 trainees, all members of the Wood Cluster Initiative, is already undergoing the training and this would last for six weeks.

He said they would be equipped to use the internet, not only to access information, but for efficient product design.

Nana Wontumi said sufficient application of ICT would enhance their work in this era of globalization to meet international standards.

He pledged the total support of the Commission to make the project a success.

Mr. Kwaku Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu-Juaben, commended the World Bank for the assistance.
