Supreme Court verdict must promote peace – Dr Nabor
Reverend Dr. Martin Bugri Nabor, Chairman of the Northern Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has advised Ghanaians to handle the outcome of the election petition before the Supreme Court (SC) maturely in order not to create turmoil in the country.
He said the security agencies should be prepared fully towards the verdict to prevent any violence that might occur, stressing that “The winners must not over enjoy themselves and the losers must also not be worried since it is a victory for democracy”.
Dr. Nabor was addressing the opening ceremony of a training of trainer’s workshop for selected teachers in the Tamale metropolis on Friday on the theme; “Building a culture for a sustainable peace: the role of the youth, students and educational institutions”.
The training, which was organized by the Ecumenical and Social Relations Department of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, forms part of efforts by the church to promote peace from the school level to communities and nationwide.
Dr. Nabor however praised the Supreme Court judges for being balanced, unbiased and professional in adjudicating the ongoing election petition and urged them to continue to give out their best for the sustenance of peace in the country.
He said the Ghanaians must not take the peace prevailing for granted but rather guard it judiciously to make the nation an example for other countries in the continent to emulate.
Rev. Dr. Solomon Sule-Saa, the National Director of Ecumenical and Social Relations said God created humans to take good care of the earth thus the woes of this world had been placed for mankind to manage for preservation of generations unborn.
“As children of God in a privileged position, we have the onerous task of working for peace in a broken and hurting world from our home and schools to ensure peace”, he said.
He said for people to become instruments of peace, it requires that they sow seeds of love, pardon and hope and should endeavour to understand each other and say no to violence as well as committing themselves to peace.
Mr. Dominic Kulariba, Peace Project Coordinator for the Northern Presbytery expressed worry about the involvement of the youth in vicious crimes and violence in society lately and urged the youth to avoid such acts.
