Presby Church to establish teaching hospital
The Agogo Presbyterian Hospital in the Asante-Akyem North Municipality is to be restructured into a teaching hospital to ensure improved health care delivery in the Municipality.
By this action, Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), becomes the first member of the Christian Health Association of Ghana to own and operate a teaching hospital in the country.
This was announced by Right-Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, Moderator of the General Assembly of the church, at the inauguration of the Presbyterian Midwifery Training School at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
He said plans to upgrade the hospital to a teaching status were far advanced and that barring any unforeseen circumstances, the decision would be soon implemented.
Rt-Rev Martey, who joined Ms Sherry Hanny Ayittey, Minister of Health, to unveil a plaque to inaugurate the school established two years ago, noted that the church would continue to partner government to provide the youth with the requisite knowledge and skills needed to make them responsible future leaders.
“It is the desire of the PCG to turn out products that would not only be good academically but would also possess qualities that would make them fit into the church’s expectations.”
Rt-Rev Martey warned the trainees to resist attempts of being lured into vices and uphold the tenets of their training.
He appealed to the church’s Health Department to take advantage of the media to educate the general public on maternal and infant mortality and the need to promote healthy living in order as we seek to attain the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5.
