Nkonya, Alanvanyo sign peace pact

A peace agreement to immediately end hostilities between the people of Nkonya and Alavanyo, had been signed by the leaderships of the two towns, a statement from the Interior Ministry said on Sunday.

Signed by Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, Minister of Interior, the statement said the leadership comprised the chiefs and opinion leaders from both towns.

It urged all to cooperate with the security personnel and give peace a chance to enable the citizenry of the two communities to pursue their legitimate livelihood.

It said at Sunday dawn on June 30, a combined Police and Military Force was sent to the Alanvanyo and Nkonya traditional areas to contain the security breaches ongoing in the area.

“This follows the recent escalating security infraction in the two traditional areas and the general request that security presence in those areas be enhanced,” it added.

The statement said the presence of the security was in response to the collaborative directive of the Ministry and the National Security Coordinator’s Office to take immediate steps at protecting lives and properties and to ensure that no further lives were lost.

It, therefore, reminded residents of the area that the 6.00pm to 6.00am curfew was still in place and that anybody caught breaking it would be dealt with severely.
