COCOBOD launches cocoa fair
Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod) on Wednesday launched the National Cocoa Fair to mark this year’s campaign on Copal Cocoa Day which falls on September 28 to October 1.
The Fair, which would be held in Accra, is to give cocoa processors and manufactures, chiefs, restaurant operators, input suppliers, financial institutions and other stakeholders to showcase their products and services to encourage the consumption of cocoa.
Mr Anthony Fofie, Chief Executive Officer of Cocobod, said Cocobod decided to direct the promotional campaign generally towards every area of the society and also include the poor to make cocoa consumption part of the national psyche.
“As the second leading producer of cocoa in the world, a full-scale generic promotion campaign is imperative and a well-resourced campaign will surely rise per capital cocoa consumption and sustain the industry and the economy,” he said.
Mr Noah Amenyah, Public Affairs Manager of Cocobod, said there would be documentaries on the event and posters, flyers, banners, booklets and brochures would be used in disseminating the attributes of cocoa to the general public.
He said the fair would improve the incomes of cocoa farmers and also create employment for the millions of Ghanaians who would be engaged in the activities.
He said this year’s fair would benefit manufacturers, processors, input suppliers, financial institutions, telecommunication companies, government agencies and civil society organizations among others.
Mr Amenyah said it would also offer Ghanaians the opportunity to experience the good things cocoa could proffer.
He called on all stakeholders to help in the printing of T-Shirts, posters and banners as part of their contribution towards the fair.
