Valley View University to introduce new courses

All is set for Valley View University (VVU) to introduce two new courses to its portfolio after receiving the needed endorsement from the National accreditation Board (NAB) with effect from the 2013/2014 academic calendar.

The courses which would be run by the Departments of Mathematics, Science and Economics include BSc Mathematics with Statistics and BSc Mathematics with Statistics.

This was disclosed by Professor Daniel Buor, Vice Chancellor, VVU, during the 19th Congregation ceremony of the university where 490 students comprising 305 males and 185 females passed out.

Out of the 490 who passed out, 46 of them obtained first class, 166 had second class (upper division), 245 had second class (lower division) with 25 getting third class.

Addressing the graduates, he congratulated them for their ability to go through their courses successfully and urged them to make themselves useful to their societies by putting into use the skills and knowledge acquired while in school.

He pledged the commitment of the school towards providing students with all the needed assistance to make studies easier.

Professor Buor said due to the invaluable contributions of library to university education, the library of the university had taken delivery Social Science Library (SSL) database which is made up of a carefully selected and organized collection of theoretical and applied articles of leading social scientists.

“The book stock on our Oyibi campus (main campus) increased from 10,649 in October 2012 to 11,340 in June 2013, an increase of 6.48%. The book stock at Techiman campus stands at 1,580”, he stated.

Professor Buor said two hostels on the main campus and one on Techiman campus that could accommodate a total of 2, 100 students were ready for commissioning.

He praised the students for some innovations such as an online registration system, online application system, and an increase in the internet bandwidth of the school.

He said the basic school of the university which was established in September 2012 had received tremendous patronage with enrolment standing at 370.

Professor Buor said due to hard work, the University was awarded Gold category by the Business Initiative Directions, an international organization based in Madrid, Spain.

“Otherways Management Association Club , based in Paris also awarded VVU in the Gold category for demonstrating quality in its programme and activities and for business prestige”, he added.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, Minister of Education, urged the graduates to believe in themselves and create employment opportunities for themselves.

She appealed to them to not let the attainment of first degrees mark the end of their academic pursuit as education has no end.

Pastor Geoffrey Mbwana, General Vice President, General Council of Seventh Day Adventist, Silver Spring, Michigan, USA, called on the students to put their trust in God in all instances.

Mr Samuel Gyamerah, who graduated from the Accounting Department, was adjudged the Overall Best Student.
