Ghanaian leaders asked to provide good example of openness
The Rector of the Saint Peter’s Cathedral Basilica in Kumasi has called on people in leadership to provide good example of openness and self-discipline.
Monsignor Raphael Owusu-Peprah said they need to demonstrate passionate patriotism and incorruptibility to protect the nation’s resources.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, he condemned the situation where those placed in positions of trust tend to place their individual comfort and convenience ahead of the general good of the society.
He gave high marks to former Attorney General, Mr. Martin Amidu, for his fighting spirit, leading to the recovery of some wrongful judgement debt payments.
He said by this, he has shown that he is “God-fearing, honest, and sincere.”
“The real meaning of leadership is to make proper use of our God-given values to serve our people for them to enjoy the basic necessities of life. I believe that in his heart Mr. Amidu is happy that he has served God and country”.
Monsignor Owusu-Peprah, however, noted that if those managing the public purse had been diligent and patriotic in the discharge of their duties those weird judgement payments could have been avoided.
He said it is important for all to draw lessons from what had happened and to be inspired to stand for what is right and boldly speak against corrupt practices and social injustice.
