Parents call for transfer of headmistress
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), of Omenako Municipal Authority Junior High School in the Suhum Municipality, has called for the transfer of the Headmistress of the school.
Mr George Mensah, Chairman of the PTA, said the continued stay of Ms Mary Asabea Otu, could cause the sudden collapse of the school.
He alleged that the headmistress do not consult members of staff and other stakeholders of the school before taking decisions.
Mr Mensah told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Ms Otu has poor human relations with her staff and “anyone who dared complain about her actions was threatened with transfer”.
The PTA Chairman also alleged that the headmistress was fond of verbally abusing the students.
He claimed that headmistress collected unauthorised monies from the students for the purpose of feeding them during a circuit cultural festival organised in the area.
Ms Otu also exploits the labour of the students by compelling them to collect stones for sale to help renovate the school.
When GNA spoke to the headmistress she confirmed that she collected money from the students towards the festival but said it was they who brought the idea since there was no money to provide them with food during the event.
She also confirmed that the students collected stones for sale but the money was used to purchase burglar proof for the school.
Ms Otu however refuted the allegation that she was not consulting and collaborating with staff and other stakeholders over the running of the school.
