Assin South rejects DCE nominee for the second time

The Assin South District Assembly has for the second time running rejected Madam Sabina Appiah-Kubi, as the District Chief Executive.

She needed 22 votes to obtain two-thirds majority to qualify for the position but the 33-member Assembly failed to endorse her after the first ballot last week, during which she secured 188 of the 33 votes.

The District Assembly’s Standing Orders stipulates that a nominee should obtain two-thirds majority to qualify for the position.

If a candidate fails to win, he or she would have a second ballot within 10 days.

Failure to get the nod the second time, will compel the President to withdraw the nomination.

Mr Samuel Sarpong, Central Regional Minister, urged the assembly members to bury their differences and consider the development of the area as paramount.

Mr Yaw Korankye, a Member of Council of State, asked the members not to allow partisan politics to divide them but to make the growth of the district a priority.
