President Mahama to meet AfDB, economic management team

President John Dramani Mahama would on Monday afternoon hold separate meetings with officials of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the economic management team.

Mr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations,   announced this during the daily briefing of the media at the Flagstaff House, Kanda.

He said while the meeting with the economic management team would review the strategies that would help improve the economy, that of the AfDB would ‘’discuss the way forward for in their relations’’.

Mr Mohammed said the two meetings would be held behind closed doors at the Presidency.

Some few weeks ago, President Mahama constituted an economic task force to work round the clock to plug all financial loopholes in the country.

The work of the taskforce helped in retrieving more than GHC 60, 000 from about 30 companies in the country.

The Deputy Minister said Government is so far satisfied with the performance of the economic management team, and would continue to provide the team with the necessary support that would enhance their future performance.

On the meeting with the AfDB, Mr Mohammed said the bank had been instrumental in the socio-economic development of Ghana and the meeting could deepen their relations with Ghana.

He said:” the AfDB has been associated with the provision of health education and economic sectors and I want to believe that the meeting will send our relations to different dimensions.”

On the strengthening of the energy sector, the Deputy Minister, said gas had started flowing from the West African Gas pipeline and the Asogli Gas Plant had so far about 150 megawatts of power for supply and would generate more power for the country.

He gave the assurance that the energy challenges in the country would soon be a thing of the past as government was recovering the losses it recorded a few months ago.
