Japanese investors explore opportunities in Ghana
Dr Omani Boamah, Minister of Communication, has pledged Government’s commitment to deepen relations with Japan.
He said the two countries have enjoyed fruitful working relations in the past and expressed the hope that this would continue as Japan has expressed its resolve to support Ghana’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
Dr Boamah gave the pledge when he received a 20- member Japanese delegation led by Mr Adu Mensah, Country Representative of the Japan External Trade Organisation Accra.
The delegation is in the country to explore investment opportunities in the areas of ICT, Energy, Transport and other sectors of the economy.
Dr Boamah said Ghana would love to work with many ICT companies in Japan to expand the country’s technology base.
He said it is the intention of the country to move from the analogue television service to digital by the end of the year.
Mr Boamah said there are also opportunities for investment in the Information Technology (IT) sector and urged IT companies among the delegation to consider the opportunities including the aviation industry and Ghana Meteorological Service Department (GMSD).
He said there is the need for the GMSD to have a strong data collection technology to facilitate the services it provide to Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.
In the area of communication, Dr Boamah said Ghana’s telecommunication sector is facing many challenges and the Ministry plans to deploy a long term evolution programme to improve the quality of service in the sector.
Mr Issah Yahaya, Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation of the Ministry, said the body is working to improve the postal service sector.
He expressed the hope that the delegation would offer assistance to the sector.
Mr Takeshi Hata, NEC Corporation Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa and a member of the delegation, expressed the desire to provide ICT expertise to the GMSD.
He lauded Ghana for its strides especially in the areas of good governance and economic stability.
The delegation is in Ghana following the investment opportunities President John Dramai Mahama presented at the 5th Tokyo International Conference on African Development.
