NCCE launches peace campaign in Ashanti Region
The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has launched a campaign to encourage people in the region to uphold the peace after the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Presidential Election Petition.
It involves radio panel discussions, sending peace messages through community information centres and information vans, dawn broadcasts, community durbars, active engagement with chiefs and the youth wings of the two leading political parties – the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr Alhassan Yakubu, the NCCE Regional Director told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that they would also work in close partnership with the churches and mosques to help keep the people together.
He called for the parties to the election dispute to prepare the minds of their supporters towards the possible outcome and the need to accept the Court’s verdict, however, bitter they might find it, in good faith.
This is the way to prevent a raft of tension and needless confusion.
He appealed to all to remain calm and to be measured in their pronouncements to sustain the peace and unity of the country.
