Ghanaian artistes attend workshop

Six Ghanaian Artistes are benefiting from Ghana Danish Cultural Fund (GDCF) sponsored training workshop in Accra.

The 14-day workshop is to assist the Artistes to broaden their horizon and vision towards their work.

Professor Ablade Glover, Director of Artistes Alliance Gallery, who announced this at a news conference over the weekend, said the GDCF is sponsoring both the workshop and a 10-day exhibition to the tune of GH¢35,000.

The sponsorship covers travelling expenditure including hotel bills, air tickets for the resource person, Prof Daniel Kojo Schrade, Professor of Arts, Hampsphire College, United States.

The workshop, he said, is geared towards young artistes to give them insight to what their counterparts elsewhere on the globe are performing.

Prof Glover noted that the trend of arts in Ghana is going down and there is the need for stakeholders to invest into the sector to enhance its growth.

Mr Nat Nunoo Amartefio, former Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the creation of Ministry of Arts and culture showed government’s determination and commitment for the sector.

He said lots of things are happening in the sector world over and a country’s worth depend on the value of arts that are produced as well as the Gross Domestic Product  of that country.

Prof Schrade expressed the need for the building of the career of young artists through sharing of ideas and experience as well as gathering information through research.
