Parents urged to inculcate time management in children
Mrs Georgina Obeng, Proprietress of the Blessed King of Glory School in Koforidua, has advised parents to inculcate effective time management and time consciousness in their children.
She also appealed to workers, politicians, religious leaders, teachers and all citizens to do away with the concept of “African time,” and be time conscious and also use time effectively, adding; “by so doing we can change our destinies”.
“As a country if we can do away with the “African time” and use time effectively and productively, standard of living will be high and our beloved country will be a better place to live in,” she said.
Mrs Obeng was speaking at the 21st anniversary and graduation ceremony of the school, under the theme; “Defusing the African Concept of Time, Inculcating Effective Time Management in the Early Childhood”.
“In the wisdom of God, He made time as a measure and check for man’s activities by demonstrating to us how he could use six days to create the whole world,” she said.
Mrs Obeng advised parents, who bring their children to school late to desist from the practice, since it could affect their learning process, resulting in non-performance of the child.
“Such a child may grow up without respecting time,” she said.
Mr Alexander Boakye-Yiadom, Director of the school, said one of the main reasons for the under-development of the country was the indifferent attitude to time.
He said the problem of punctuality had become so endemic that lateness to any function was accepted and explained as “African or Ghana time”.
