Include private schools in laptop project – Educationist
Mrs Comfort Gyamfi, Proprietor of Little Angels Early Childhood Development Centre in Sunyani, on Tuesday appealed to the Ministry of Education to extend the “one child one laptop” project to private basic schools.
She said denying pupils in private schools of such a package indicated that government’s proposed quality education for all school children would remain a mirage.
Speaking at the 17th graduation of the school, Mrs Gyamfi appealed to Non-Governmental Organisations to assist private basic schools with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres.
The graduation ceremony saw twenty-one children in kindergarten two graduating to primary class one.
The school was established in 1995 with five children but now has a population of 120 children, made up of 65 boys and 55 girls.
Mrs Gyamfi explained that although private schools served as a business entity, they continued to produce quality human resource base needed for national development and, therefore, the need to ensure that pupils from these schools benefited from such national packages.
She said since public schools alone could not provide the needed facilities for the increasing school going age children in the country, the government should appreciate the contributions of private schools and support them especially in the area of ICT development.
Mrs Gyamfi commended the Parent-Teacher-Association of the centre for their support and commitment towards the proper upbringing and development of the children.
