SADA, MoFA join forces to grow agric sector

farmer_1Dr Yakubu Alhassan, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in-charge of Crops has called for effective collaboration between Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) and the Food Ministry to improve agricultural productivity.

This, he said would reduce duplication of duties and functions and improve value for money through judicious expenditure of government funds.

It will also enhance policy harmonisation for the expansion of the agricultural value chain.

Dr Alhassan made the call in Tamale on Tuesday during the strategic stakeholder’s round-table between SADA and Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) to address challenges in the agricultural sector and fine-tune strategies to effectively increase production step up income and reduce poverty among farmers.

He observed that for SADA to achieve its objectives, it must be at the same pace with MOFA at the regional and districts levels since the ministry is the major implementer of authority’s projects.

Alhaji Gilbert Seidu Iddi, Chief Executive Officer of SADA said the meeting was aimed at building consensus with MOFA in realising the vision of the authority, to create a forested north within the stipulated 20 years period.

He said the role of the authority is to collaborate with other institutions to double the income of the people and reduce poverty to less than 20 per cent within 20 years.

“We are determined to achieve that before the mandated time,” he said.

Alhaji Iddi said SADA would use modernised agricultural technologies to build smooth relationships to provide solutions to poverty.
