Government lauds private schools for promoting education

Government has lauded the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) for complementing national efforts in delivering quality education to the people.

Mr Daniel Syme, Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, who made the commendation during a National Biennial Delegates Conference of GNAPS, in Bolgatanga on Wednesday indicated that Government had over the years made it clear that it could not shoulder the cost of education alone.

He said Government had established Private School Desks within Ghana Education Service (GES) as part of public private partnership in education.

The Desks are expected to render the assistance and technical support that private schools need to enable them to deliver quality education.

Mr Syme said the private schools would be invited to seminars and workshops organised by GES to build the capacities of managers and teachers in school management “to ensure that we are all on the same page with issues pertaining to Government policy changes”.

He said some private tertiary institutions had received buses from the Ghana Education Trust Fund to support their operations.

Students in private tertiary institutions are also benefiting from loans under the Student Loans Trust Fund.

Reverend (Mrs) Comfort Quartey Regional Chairperson of GNAPS said the Association, which is 10 years old in the Region has 48 active member schools and 32 dormant members.

The first Vice President of GNAPS, Steve Revss said over the years his outfit has been collaborating with the Ministry of Education and the GES to improve on students performance.
