Veep inaugurates new World Bank office in Accra

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur on Tuesday inaugurated a new office building of the World Bank Group in Accra, and commended the growing collaboration between the Bank and the Government of Ghana.
He noted that the office building, located along the Independence Avenue at Ridge, a suburb of Accra, would provide a much bigger space and be more comfortable to staff, clients and visitors to the office.
The Vice President lauded the financial support of the Group to Ghana’s development effort, but stressed the need for more foreign direct investment in the financing of infrastructure as the nation has attained the middle income status.
The office had moved from South Legon, another suburb in Accra, to the present location and it accommodates two other members of the Group; the International Finance Corporation and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency.
Mr Jean Phillipe Prosper, Vice-President of the IFC for Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, said the structure embodied the spirit of Ghana, which stood at the forefront of colonial independence and was now leading in the African economic renaissance.
He said: “Ghana is leading the way. Ghana’s growth in the first decade of this century averaged more than six per cent. Today that growth is even higher, and expected to continue,” Mr Prosper said.
The building features include green roofing, rain harvesting, natural lighting and cultural and disability friendly components.
