Street naming project in STMA
Mr. Opoku Boateng, Assistant Public Relations Officer of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), on Tuesday said names given to streets in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis under the Street Naming and House Numbering Project are proposed names.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sekondi, he said the proposed names of streets would be maintained and documented at the end of the project.
Mr. Boateng said the final names of the streets would be written on plates, and that communities not happy with the proposed names of streets in their areas could write to the assembly through their recognized leaders.
He said aggrieved communities must also give justification for their concern and put forward alternative names for the streets, adding that, streets must be named after somebody who has lived an exemplary life.
Mr. Boateng said the proposed names were adopted after consultations with key stakeholders in communities including assembly members, traditional rulers and opinion leaders.
He said unfortunately, stakeholders in some communities did not positively participate in the consultation process.
