WACD visits Guinea Bissau

A delegation of the West Africa Commission on Drugs (WACD) is to visit Guinea Bissau from August 19-21 to hold consultations with government and non-governmental institutions on drugs.

The delegation will meet with the authorities, international and regional organisations as well as civil society groups to better understand the drugs situation in Guinea Bissau.

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency by Mrs Araba Essilfua Arhin WACD Programme Coordinator, explained that the delegation will also engaged the Guinea Bissau media on August 20.

According to the statement the delegation will be led by former Nigerian President and WACD Chairman Olusegun Obasanjo and will include Ms Christine Kafondo, a public health activist from Burkina Faso, and Dr. Alpha Diallo, a medical doctor and youth leader from Guinea.

The statement said WACD Country visits are used to contribute to the understanding of the impact of drug trafficking and consumption in the region.

Mr Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel Prize laureate, launched WACD in Accra in January 2013 in a bid to tackle the drug problem in West Africa and its impact on security, governance and public health.
