Use money from Disability Fund wisely – DCE
Mr. James Gunu, Akatsi North District Chief Executive (DCE), has advised beneficiaries of the Disability Fund (DF) to use the money they received purposefully.
“Desist from the unfortunate practice of wasteful spending whenever people receive what they termed as ‘government money’ and rather use it for the intended purposes,”he said.
Mr. Gunu said this when 10,000 Ghana cedis from the Fund was shared among the first batch of 30 registered Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) at Ave Dakpa
The total registered PWDs in the District stand at 320.
He said packages meant to tackle poverty did not seem to make the desired impact, partly because people took them for granted and failed to utilize them as expected.
Mr. Gunu said the Fund, which is a component of the District Assemblies Common Fund, is partly to serve as venture capital, defray educational, health care and job skills training cost to generally alleviate the economic plight of beneficiaries and must not be misused.
He cautioned PWDs who have allegedly registered to enable them benefit in both Akatsi North and South districts to desist from such practice, since they would be caught and it would also undermine the Fund’s sustainability and effect.
Mr. Bartholomew Agbavitor, 45, a visually impaired beneficiary pledged on behalf of his colleagues to apply the money wisely.
