Media urged to champion child rights protection

mediaJournalists in the country have been tasked to give prominence to child rights protection issues in the discharge of the duties, to enable the country deal with any such abuses.

Mr Samuel Kyei-Berko, Deputy Programmes Manager of Ark Foundation Ghana, a non-governmental organization (NGO), who made the appeal, lamented that child rights violation was common in some communities in Ghana.

He made the call at a workshop organised by the Foundation in collaboration with Plan Ghana, also an NGO,  to sensitise journalists from the Eastern Region on child protection issues, in Koforidua.

Mr Kyei-Berko asked the media to set the agenda for parents, stakeholders and government to tackle child rights violation.

“As media, you need to intensify child rights advocacy by reporting on all child abuses and referring such cases to the appropriate agencies for redress,” he said.
