Grass-cutter farmers build capacity to boost production
A total of 56 farmers have been taken through a three-day capacity building programme to gather more knowledge on how best to increase grass-cutter production in the Eastern Region.
The Eastern Regional Grass-cutter Farmers Association (ERGFA) organized the training with financial support from the Skill Development Fund (SDF).
The farmers were taken through areas such as the construction of proper grass-cutter cages, handling techniques, feeding and healthcare with facilitators drawn from the Animal Research Institute of the University of Ghana, Legon.
Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Kwame Ampim, the Regional Chairman of the ERGFA, said grass-cutter rearing was a good area the nation and other entrepreneurs could invest in.
He said more jobs would be created for the many unemployed youth in the country if the government ventured into grass-cutter farming.
Mr Ampim expressed gratitude to the SDF for sponsoring the training and called for more of such capacity building to produce more qualified grass-cutter farmers in the country.
