TUC commends Ghanaians for receiving verdict
The Trades Union Congress (TUC), Ghana, has commended Ghanaians for peacefully receiving the verdict of the Supreme Court on the 2012 election.
“On behalf of the working people of this country the TUC deeply commend Ghanaians for exhibiting political maturity after the verdict,” a statement signed by Mr Kofi Asamoah, Secretary General of TUC, said.
It said Ghanaians indeed, demonstrated high sense of patriotism, and love for peace and placed Ghana first before all other interests.
The statement noted: “as a country, we have surmounted another hurdle in our march towards a free, just and prosperous society. The TUC and the working people of Ghana see no losers and victors. Ghanaians won the admiration of the world again”.
It commended President John Dramani Mahama for his tremendous show of leadership.
The statement said: “As we said in the statement we issued on the 26th August, 2013, No matter the outcome of the petition, we must turn our attention to healing the soul of the country.
“We must deepen our commitment to finding solutions to the numerous socio-economic challenges facing the country, and redouble our efforts towards building a state where all our peoples are treated with utmost dignity “, it said.
The statement commended the New Patriotic Party presidential candidate for the 2012 Election, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for accepting the verdict of the Supreme Court and appealing to NPP supporters to put the dispute behind them and come together to build the nation.
It also praised the nine judges who sat on the case, and the lawyers of both the petitioners and respondents for their endurance and diligence manner during the hearing of the dispute.
