Health directorate steps up safe motherhood education
The Atwima-Nwabiagya District Health Directorate has stepped up reproductive health education in the area in a bid to promote safe motherhood to check maternal deaths.
Dr Samuel Somuah, District Health Director, said the directorate is working through the community information centres, schools and queens.
Midwives, laboratory technologists and other health professionals are also receiving in-service training to upgrade service delivery.
He told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that his outfit is additionally running refresher courses for community health volunteers to enhance disease surveillance.
Dr Somuah said the directorate is determined to work hard to improve the health of the people and bring down preventable deaths.
He said the district is however, faced with challenges, prominent among them being inadequate residential accommodation for staff, irregular drugs supplies and transportation constraints.
