Ghanaians deserve to be happy – Liberia’s Deputy IGP
Madam Rose E. Stryker, Liberia’s Deputy Inspector General of Police In-Charge of Administration, on Monday said Ghanaians deserve to be happy for the peaceful resolution of the 2012 presidential electoral dispute through the judiciary.
She said it was a great milestone in the history of Ghana and Africa for such a dispute to be resolved through the court process without violence and urged Ghanaians to go beyond the Supreme Court’s verdict and move on with life.
Madam Stryker made the remark in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Accra on the sideline of the opening ceremony of the 12th training session of the West Africa Peacebuilding Institute.
The Liberian Deputy IGP is one of the 55 participants from West Africa and beyond taking part in a three week long peacebuilding programme been organised by West Africa Peacebuilding Institute in collaboration with Kofi Annan International Peace Training Centre.
She said Ghana is not alone in the struggle for democratic governance; explaining that the older democracies like the United States had a similar challenge which was resolved through the court process.
She observed that it is important for Ghanaians and indeed, Africans to know that once a court has spoken, everyone must abide by it.
Madam Stryker urged Africans to have faith in the judiciary in resolving conflicts, noting that there is a paradigm shift in Africa towards peace and Africans must obey the trend.
She said Africans must choose the path of peace and resolve never to go back to the bush to take up arms.
The Liberian Deputy IGP called on African countries to harness their resources towards the maintenance of peace, security and stability for socio-economic development.
