Don’t scandalise the court – GBA tells lawyers
The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has condemned unwarranted attacks on the Supreme Court judges, warning that such conduct amounts to scandalising the court and carry penalties.
The GBA calls on lawyers to be circumspect in their utterances and to be fair and measured in their analysis of the court’s verdict.
A statement signed by Nene Amegatcher, National President of GBA and copied to the Ghana News Agency asked lawyers to await the reasons for the ruling for sound analysis.
“The GBA reminds lawyers especially persons who were instructed in the petition before the Supreme Court to remember that it amounts to misconduct to grant an interview to the media in a matter in which such person is instructed as counsel,” it said.
The statement said GBA shall not hesitate to refer any such conduct to the disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council for the necessary sanction.
