Service personnel cautioned to beware of imposters
The National Service Scheme (NSS) on Wednesday cautioned prospective national service personnel against impostors who promise to assist them change their service postings for favours.
The NSS said such miscreants posed as officials of the Scheme at the various points of registration and lured fresh service persons to fall into their tricks and extort monies from them with the pretext of helping them change their postings.
Alhaji Alhassan Imoro, Acting Executive Director of the NSS, gave the caution in Accra at a press conference to formally launch the 2013/2014 national service year, during which over 70,000 national service persons were deployed to work in various parts of the country.
He observed that over the past three years, the Scheme had recorded a number of impersonations, fraud and extortions by some unscrupulous people, who attempted to take advantage of unsuspecting and desperate service persons in their desire to change their postings.
He said some of the miscreants had been arrested and handed over to the police.
“We wish to advice the public that there is a clear process of applying for a change of posting and that there is no payment of money involved.
“Service persons who may be approached by any person to pay for any change of posting should immediately report to officials of the Scheme at the head office or to any of our regional directors.
“The road is a long winding one to success but we are optimistic that with will, courage and determination, we shall get there,” he said.
