Ghana’s BoxBuzz named among top 40 tech startups for 2013 DEMO Africa
A Ghanaian app, BoxBuzz has been named among top 40 African startups.
This means BoxBuzz will be given an opportunity at this year’s DEMO Africa event to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, on October 24 and 25 to present its plans before a global audience of investors, media, strategic buyers, company executives and other entrepreneurs.
BoxBuzz, developed by PopOut and founded by Ghanaian entreprenuer, Maximus Ametorgoh, is an SMS alert system which sends text messages to owners of Post Office Box addresses whenever they receive a letter in their boxes.
Developers say the software is a solution which will format the Post Office system into a trendy and tech-driven one. “It can be scaled in any market using the PO Box system,” they added.
DEMO Africa is one of the flagship initiatives of US-backed LIONS@frica and aims to connect African startups to the global ecosystem.
According to organisers, the 40 finalists have gone through three rigorous screening processes with the final vetting and adjudication done by a pan-African panel of judges comprised of entrepreneurs and academia.
They indicated that a total of 300 serious applications were processed and then shortlisted to 160 ventures before a selection of the final 40 was made, covering five categories including Mobile Technology, Social Media, Consumer Products, Cloud Services and Enterprise Technologies.
