Investment in large-scale commercial agriculture infrastructure in Ghana would boost the small scale agriculture, Mr. Clement Kofi Humado, Food and Agriculture Minister has said.

He said investment in expanding irrigation systems for instance would promote small scale outgrower farming and better produce marketing arrangements.

Mr. Humado said this at the inauguration of a refurbished office for the Akatsi-North District Department of Agriculture.

He commended the Assembly for the initiative and appealed to chiefs to educate their people against the outright sale of land in the district, and rather use the lands as their holdings in projects.

Mr Humado said through this arrangement a community in South-Tongu District was able earn 400,000 dollars from a Brazilian rice project in 2012 and still retains the land for future generations.

Mr. Humado promised to donate one tractor to farmers in the district through the Assembly pending the establishment of a tractor mechanization service center there.

He visited the Ave-Afiadenyigba dam and promised that others at Dakpa and Ashiagborvi would also be tackled.

Mr. James Gunu, District Chief Executive of the area, said the Assembly and the chiefs would collaborate with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to exploit the immense agriculture potentials of the District.
