Accra court jails narcotic drug supplier

An Accra circuit court on Friday sentenced Yaw Badu, 31, unemployed, to two years imprisonment on his own plea for supply of narcotic drug.

The police initially charged Badu for possessing of narcotic drug.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Cletus Abdamlora told the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that on January 12, at about 0900 hours personnel of the Narcotic Units of the CID headquarters carried out an anti-narcotic drug operation within the Accra Metropolis.

He said the team acting upon a tip-off proceeded to a spot near rail lines at Achimota and arrested the convict in his room.

The prosecution said a search conducted in the room revealed quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

He said further search also led to the discovery of a paper box containing five compressed slabs of similar leaves all suspected to be narcotic drug.

ASP Abdamlora said during interrogation the convict claimed ownership of the exhibits but failed to disclose his source to the police.
