Ghana observes World Day of Peace
The President of the World Peace Volunteers, Mr. Seth Osei Acheampong, has noted that international day of peace celebrated each year must offer world the opportunity to break the vicious cycle of violence that conflict creates.
He was adding his voice to the many people conscientizing the populace on the celebration of the day, which falls on September 21.
“The World Peace Volunteers stands for Global Peace, hence the need to prompt people to get ready to mark the observance of the world peace day as a step towards the onwards promotion of peace.
“For peace to be effective, we need a time tested peace building mechanism for a sustainable future. Peace sustainability is not a mirage, but a reality that can be created through several modules which will spread across the globe,” Mr Acheampong said.
He called on governments, parties to conflicts, religious institutions, community leaders, the media, academics, and civil society groups to play their part, adding that everyone must support peace education programmes, protect students and teachers from conflict, help rebuild schools destroyed by war, and ensure all girls and boys have access to quality education that includes learning about resolving and preventing conflicts.
He used the opportunity of the day to thank Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the entire NPP party members and their legal team, for their stance on peace even after the outcome of the Supreme Court’s verdict.
Mr Acheampong also extended the same appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, the Electoral Commission, and the hierarchy of the National Democratic Congress and their legal team.
He also thanked the learned Supreme Court judges for their role in the election petition process, the media for comporting themselves in a professional manner and the Ghanaians for restraining themselves.
”On this International Day of Peace, let us pledge to teach our children the value of tolerance and mutual respect. Let us fight for peace and defend it with all our might. Let us not forget that peace does not occur by chance, it is the product of the conscious and consistent effort of people of good will acting together for the common good,” Mr. Acheampong said.
