Career Fair opens for students in Ho

An educational fair to help young people sample opportunities that would enable them select appropriate careers opened in Ho on Monday.

It was dubbed: “Va Kpor Edufair 2013,” meaning “Come and See”.

The 15 corporate exhibitors at the eight-day fair include educational institutions, local and foreign book publishers, stationery outlets and skills development institutions.

Mr Frank Foley, Chief Executive of Riviera World Consult, organisers of the fair said there is an urgent need to get parents, guardians and students to disabuse their minds about the straight jacket concept of educational progression, that must see one move from basic school to senior secondary school and then to the university.

He said there are many other bends and curves that could still see a scholastic and career oriented person to the top.

“Our children and parents need to know where they can get the best education possible for their talents and skill sets,” Mr Foley said.

He said the fair was meant to expose some of these options.

Ms Linda Amenuvor, Public Relations Officer of Riviera World Consult said besides seeking information on opportunities, students must reflect on their special skills, personality and the job market before selecting careers.

Ms Laurenda Adiasany, an Assistant Registrar at the Ho Polytechnic said there are many educational opportunities worth considering by parents and students.

Mr Dennis Kweku Baofo, Business Manager of Riviera World Consult told Ghana News Agency that the corporate entity would replicate the fair in other parts of the country.

Mama Agblatsu III, a Queen of Ho-Bankoe and an Educationalist lauded the organisers of the event and expressed the hope that patronage would pick up.
